What We Publish — and Why It's Different

Most information available online about Costa Rica's compliance requirements is either wrong, outdated, or written by someone who has never filed a TRIBU-CR submission, spoken with a SUGEF compliance officer, or read Ley 9635 in Spanish. It is synthesized from other people's blog posts, not from primary sources.

InfoBites Research guides are different. They are built on direct operational experience in Costa Rica — the permits filed, the portals navigated, the legislation read in the original Spanish, the accountants worked with. Each guide is a structured reference document: the legal framework, the agencies involved, the filing sequences, the terminology, and the professional tools to execute.

The Costa Rica STR Toolkit, our first publication, is the most complete operational compliance guide available in English for foreign nationals hosting on Airbnb or VRBO in Costa Rica. It covers ICT tourism permits, IVA registration, SUGEF beneficial owner filing, municipal patente requirements, HOA restrictions, and province-by-province market data — with 8 professional tools included.

The Research Methodology

Every InfoBites Research guide is built on three verifiable layers:

Layer 1 — Direct operational experience. The author has personally navigated the regulatory systems described. This is not secondhand summary. It is direct experience with the agencies, portals, and processes covered.

Layer 2 — Primary source review. Every claim is traced to official legislation, agency portals, or regulatory guidance. Links are provided only to official government sources — ICT, Hacienda, SUGEF, Registro Nacional. Secondary sources are flagged as such.

Layer 3 — Pre-publication verification. Each guide is verified against current regulatory status before publication. When regulations change, the guide is updated. Purchasers receive the current edition.

Where source materials are in Spanish, we work with them directly — not through translation services or secondary summaries. When an interpretation is uncertain, we say so and recommend professional verification.

What We Are Not

InfoBites Research does not provide legal advice, tax advice, or investment advice. Our guides are reference and research material — the best independent operational intelligence we can assemble on a given compliance domain.

Our job is to make sure you understand the system well enough to protect yourself, ask the right questions, and work more effectively with the local professionals you hire. A Costa Rican attorney who charges $200/hour assumes you already know the basic framework. Our guides make sure you do.

Frequently Asked Questions

What format are the guides delivered in?

Protected PDF, available for instant download after purchase. You can search, highlight, and share with your accountant or attorney. Accessible on any device.

How do I receive the guide after purchase?

A secure download link is delivered to your email immediately after payment confirmation. The PDF is also attached to that email as a permanent backup — if you lose the link, you still have the file.

Is the guide updated when regulations change?

Yes. When significant regulatory changes affect the content, we update the guide and make the current edition available. You do not pay again for updates to a guide you've purchased.

Can I share it with my accountant or attorney?

Yes — you may share the guide with professionals advising you directly. Resale, redistribution, or sharing publicly is not permitted under the license terms.

Is this a substitute for a local attorney or CPA?

No — and we're direct about that. This is operational reference material that helps you understand the system before you engage professionals. A CR attorney who charges $200/hour assumes you know the basic framework. Our guides make sure you do.

What if the guide doesn't cover what I need?

Contact us before purchasing — we're happy to tell you exactly what's covered and whether it's the right fit for your situation. If you've purchased and have a specific concern, contact us and we'll work to resolve it.

Why can't I just Google this information?

You can try — but most English-language content about Costa Rica's STR regulations is wrong, outdated, or written by someone who has never filed a TRIBU-CR submission. The legislation is in Spanish. The agencies update their portals without announcement. We track this full-time so you don't have to.

Are more guides coming?

Yes. Mexico STR and Panama STR compliance guides are in development for late 2026. Subscribe on the homepage to be notified when they're available.
